Khon Kaen Golf
Enjoy the golfing experience in Khon Kaen, Thailand. Welcome to Khon Kaen Golf, a site dedicated to providing information on what is available for the golfer in this part of Thailand.

In 2007 Khon Kaen had limited facilities available for the golfer; one 18 hole golf course, and several 9 hole golf courses. However things change and now (beginning of 2015) Khon Kaen can boast five 18 hole golf courses, a 9 hole golf course, and, depending upon how far you want to travel, more courses in neighbouring provinces.

Our primary aim is to be the focal point of information for those golfers who take part, or wish to take part, in our regular golf events. This information can be found in the ‘Players Area’. There you will find details of forthcoming events, reports and results of past events, handicaps and other (hopefully) pertinent information.

A secondary aim is to inform the visitor to Khon Kaen of the golf facilities that are available for their enjoyment. Let us say at the outset this is not a business site, we do not sell anything and we do not organise golf tours; the information is provided to help the visitor make up their own mind. This information is given in the ‘Visitors Area’. There you will find details of all the local courses, some courses further afield, and other facilities available for the local and visiting golfer alike.

We hope you find this site useful but are always looking to improve; we welcome any constructive comments you may wish to make. If you require further information you can contact us, we will do our best to help.

Player of the Year 2018

There was no need for the leader after 11 months of the year to turn up at Dancoon for the final event as Hugh Campbell won the Khon Kaen golf player of the year with the highest points total of 4 rounds played during the calendar year. Congratulations Hugh!!!

General Notices

Golf Rule Changes 2019

From 1st Jan 2019, when taking relief golfers will now drop from knee height – no longer shoulder height.

There will no longer be a penalty for double-hitting a shot. Golfers will simply count the single stroke they took to strike the ball, rather than counting two shots for hitting the ball twice.

The Out of Bounds rule is set to undergo huge changes in a bid to speed up play. From 1st Jan 2019, golf clubs will be allowed to install a local rule that golfers can drop a new ball in the vicinity of where their ball has gone out of bounds, with a two stroke penalty.

There will be no penalty for accidentally moving your ball on the putting green or when looking for it. A player is not responsible for causing a ball to move unless it is “virtually certain” that they did.

The flagstick no longer has to be attended or removed when putting and there will be no penalty if a golfer hits an unattended flagstick in the hole.

Golfers will be allowed to repair spike marks as well as other damage on the putting green. There is also no penalty for merely touching the line of a putt.

Golfers can now touch the ground with their club in a hazard and can move loose impediments in a hazard without penalty. You still cannot ground your club when playing a bunker shot. An unplayable lie may be taken in a bunker, with a drop out for two strokes.

The 5 minute golf ball search time has been scrapped. From 1st Jan 2019, golfers will be allowed only 3 minutes to search for a strayed golf ball.

Late arrivals

I would remind all golfers to ensure that they arrive AND register by 08.00 for KK Golf events as far as is possible. There is significant work involved organising the draw and pairing people with golf carts and turning up after 08.15 really does throw the proverbial spanner in the works!!! A special thank you to you all for recent timely arrivals, thanks!!!

Website available storage space

In order to keep the site up to date it has been necessary to delete some of the old photos from competitions dating back to 2014 and early 2015. Where possible I have tried to keep the photo of the winner but have deleted the peripheral prize pictures.

Congratulations to Graham Burke who won the 2018 Khon kaen Golf Matchplay event, beating Steve Hoss 6 & 5 in the final played at Dancoon GC. Congrats to Steve also for making it to the final and our thanks as always to all that took part, we hope you enjoyed the event!!

Road Trips

John Thrower, Mick Collins and Allan Evans are off to sample the well worn Kao Yai circuit the first week in May, previously John Thrower and Ed Mainman went down to Kao Yai to sample the golfing delights of the region, see the side bar menu for details.

Khon Kaen Golf  v Udon Thani 2018

This years' event was another great success and the event now a regular feature in the calendar. Many of you will already know that like a naughty boomerang, the trophy has returned to Udon Thani after an 11-7 victory after two great days of golf.
The story was one of calamity for the defending champions as Khon Kaen were routed on day 1 by 5.5 to 0.5 and only saved some face on day 2 with a 6.5 to 5.5 victory on the home soil of Singha Park. A well done to Mick and Cliff for organising the event which I am sure was enjoyed by all who took part!
Here's to the next one, in 2019!!
