KK v UT Challenge 2016

Thirty one golfers arrived at Ubolratana Golf Club for the 2016 Khon Kaen versus Udon Thani Golf Challenge. Behind the scenes, Mick Collins and Cliff Saveall had been attempting to build up their teams of 16 players, all of whom are familiar to each other through KK Golf, but fell one shy on the first day, meaning a two versus one better ball in one match.

Golfers collected on the first tee at Ubolratana GC . What do you mean, Where's Wally??

Day 1 was a very closely contested affair with Udon Thani slightly edging proceedings on a very hot day, 4 1/2 to 3 1/2. All in all a successful opening day which was a credit to the pairings made by Cliff and Mick.

So then to Day 2 at Singha Park GC. Eight groups of four, each group comprising two individual singles matches, struck off from the first at Singha Park on another hot and largely cloudless day with everything to play for with only one point separating the two teams. Indeed, the weather was to prove troublesome for some golfers with sunstroke / heatstroke affecting some players.
In the end, the second day finished Udon Thani 9 Khon Kaen 7 meaning the match finished 13.5 to 10.5 in favour of Udon Thani, though as the results of the singles came in, Khon Kaen did manage to edge into the lead with a few games still to come in!!! Congratulations then to Udon Thani who lifted the new trophy for the second consecutive year (many thanks to Steve Hoss for providing the cup). Congratulations to all who took part and not least the organisers for making it such a great two days of companionship and great golf!!

Cliff Saveall receives the trophy from Mick Collins after a close fought competition where the winners were golf and friendships.
The winning Udon Thani team.
Many have expressed great interest in hosting another event soon, maybe making it two events per annum, home and away (March being touted as a possibility). On behalf of all the golfers who participated, thanks to Cliff and Mick for arranging the event and making it two great days of golf, thank you both!
